I thought I’d follow up my last post with a list of things that continue to remind me of my childhood. I mentioned before that watching Return of the Jedi on the weekend, took me to a place of happy childhood memories. It didn’t remind me of anything specific, just a time in my life when things were simpler and worry free.

Here is my list:

1. cotton candy – can’t believe I ate this sugar concoction.Cotton candy

2. fairs with rides especially the ferris wheel

3. fire works – the best times during christmas and new year’s

4. guavas – my favorite fruit

5. the smell of mangoes – we had a lot of mango trees at home

6. any of Prince’s songs from the 80s – I loved Prince ‘She wore a raspberry beret …’

7. the beach – some of my favorite family time was spent on the beach

8. walking bare footed

9. the smell of freshly baked fruit cakes – my mom would make them every holiday

Ferris Wheel

10. kids wearing school uniforms – I had to

I stop at 10 but I’m sure I could find some more things. While I complained about everything when I was younger, I can say now that I am blessed with great parents and while it wasn’t perfect, they provided me with a pretty wonderful childhood. Or I’ve conveniently forgotten all the bad stuff. So I have good memories and don’t mind the occasional flash back. The most popular things would be the smell of a particular food item or an old song on the radio. When you consider that everything you’ve been through and all the decisions that you’ve made in your lifetime make you what you are today, its healthy to remember the past. That way you get to do some introspection.
