One of my goals this year is to enter the Writer’s Digest writing competition that I had heard about for the first time last year. The deadline for the competition is in a couple weeks and I am not feeling confident about using existing work that I have. I wanted to have something new to submit. But I just seem to be too busy to get it done. No excuse I know.
There are a couple story ideas floating around in my head. They’ve been there for some time so I need to start putting them on paper. I also have a few that I’ve started and never finished. Is this common for writers or am I being lazy?
There are several categories I can enter in too. I have an idea for a sci-fi that I think would be cool. The plan is to enter 4 of the categories, memoirs, inspirational, genre short story and non-rhyming poetry. I figure increase my chances. I have nothing to lose, well maybe the $30 or $40 combined entry fee. (Cost is per entry)
I really have no excuse as I find I can write anywhere. In noise, with the tv going, people talking, it doesn’t matter. Which is an advantage I really haven’t been taking advantage of. So I’ve vowed this weekend to write. I’ll let you know how it goes.
