Not a whole lot going on right now. I was able to finish penning the story for the writing competition. Got it proof read by 2 friends and sent them off. Now the wait begins. Can I dare hope to be in the top 10 in the categories I entered. Or should I set my sights on the top 100 and be satisfied with an honorable mention. Indeed with the thousands of entries received I can only pray that mine actually makes it to the judges and does not get tossed out in the pre-screening.

As a newbie amateur writer, you often imagine people reading your work and hating it. I took a 6 week writing course once and I was always surprised when someone liked what I did. The teacher would criticize but would also highlight the good points. That helped me to develop what I had inside. I often wonder if I need to get a degree in writing. But there are so many authors who don’t have a formal education that it really doesn’t seem to be necessary. You either have the talent or you don’t but I think I need some help developing it. I have these stories going around in my head but I need to get them on paper and fleshed out into a story. School should be able to help with that part, right?

So it’ll be October before I hear anything. I’ll have entered a few other competitions by then. Someone out there must like what I do. Will this be the year? I’ll keep you posted.
