I had the occasion last week to be in the company of some women who loved them some Obama. It was a bit much for me, at points shear torture, but I could not leave. And not because I wanted to hear the conversation but I just couldn’t leave. My mom is visiting from Jamaica and we were doing the rounds making sure she gets to see all her friends and family while she is here.
So his sexy lips and I quote ‘big ears he could fly with’ make him just the right person for President. My mom’s friends didn’t offer any other reason, other than his youth, virility and good looks. I don’t doubt that there are lots of women who consider him handsome or sexy, nothing wrong with that. I’m sure his wife is very proud. But really people let your choice be about more than good looks and charisma. And when election day rolls around, go vote.
Lack of knowledge will hurt you every time. So let me encourage you to learn just how the US government works. You don’t have to be a student of history or a political science major. There’s probably an ‘Understanding the US Congress for Dummies’ book out there. It pains me to have conversations with people who really don’t know and have lived here all their lives. These are tech savvy people who know how to use google and wikipedia. It’s all out there, look it up and read. And for those old fashioned like myself there are tons of books to choose from. So take the time to educate yourself at least so you can understand fully some of the things the candidates will debate about.
